Welcome to our corner of paradise in the heart of nature, just a few minutes from the Pointe de la Torche! At Camping de la Torche, holidays are synonymous with respect for the environment. Imagine yourself surrounded by natural beauty, rustling leaves, crashing waves and birdsong. With us, this experience goes beyond a simple stay in the great outdoors!
We believe in responsible tourism because we are driven by a passion for nature, sharing and discovery. Our commitment to the environment is rooted in our family values and in everything we do.
A family heritage filled with ecological values
My parents bought this beautiful campsite in Finistère in February 2012, and were already aware of environmental issues, which they saw as the greatest challenges facing us in the very near future. To be in line with their ideas, they decided to invest lavishly and without help: their convictions and lifestyles should no longer be at odds with each other, as the survival of future generations depends on it.
They began this energy transformation (100% green energy) by changing a few habits and emphasising respect for the environment by making our campsite a place where nature and comfort coexist harmoniously:
- 98% of the lighting on the campsite uses low-energy bulbs
- 105 photovoltaic panels have been installed on the roofs of our rental properties
- 6 solar panels heat the water in the communal sanitary facilities
- 900 litres of rainwater can be collected in tanks located around the campsite
- Since 2019, the installation of a wind turbine capable of producing the electricity equivalent of 12 x 1000 watt radiators.
- Since 2014, the campsite has been a bird sanctuary, in partnership with the LPO (Ligue de Protection des Oiseaux - League for the Protection of Birds).
We are now partially self-sufficient in green energy and are therefore able to produce more than a third of our own consumption! Many other actions have been put in place at our campsite: to find out more, visit our "Ecological commitment" page.
A team committed to our approach
Our team is also committed to our sustainable development approach. In concrete terms, we train all our employees and seasonal workers to adopt the eco-gestures and good environmental practices implemented at our campsite (e.g. training in selective sorting and composting).
For the maintenance of common areas and mobile homes, we adopt a "Zero Waste" purchasing policy. All cleaning products are refilled to limit plastic packaging. So at the end of your stay, don't throw away your empty cleaning product bottles - we'll refill them so they can be reused! We also use washable sponges and wipes to keep your rental clean.
In the future, we'd also like to train our technical manager in the installation and maintenance of the solar panels that are ubiquitous on the campsite!
Looking to the future
For Camping de la Torche, the environmental approach doesn't stop there: we have some exciting projects in mind that we can't wait to share with you!
Expansion of our vegetable gardens: permaculture bins are being set up on our campsite. Eventually, they will enable us to develop activities based on responsible growing methods and seasonal produce to inspire young and old alike. They will also enable us to collect valuable data on the fauna and flora present on the campsite, thanks to our partner Axis.
Encouraging soft mobility: my parents have been waiting impatiently for this... Good news! The cycle path to the Pointe de la Torche will soon be operational! A pleasure for cyclists and hikers, but also for fans of snow sports, who will soon have new facilities at the Pointe de la Torche...
More and more of you are travelling by electric vehicle, and our single (slow-charging) charging point just wasn't enough to keep up with demand! We have therefore acquired a double fast-charging station for electric vehicles, accessible from the car park.
Protect and educate: as my parents initiated, we will continue to build insect and hedgehog huts to protect the local fauna. Our collaboration with the LPO will continue with the introduction of fun activities to discover the birds of the region. We are trying to anchor our structure locally by creating links with biodiversity protection associations (partnership projects with Bretagne Vivante, for example).
Responsible management of resources: we will continue our efforts to manage water and energy. To this end, we have contacted companies to reuse waste water in the sanitary facilities, water from the swimming pool and rainwater.
We're also planning to install sub-meters in each mobile home to encourage everyone to use energy sparingly: savings and ecology often go hand in hand!
Selective sorting and recycling: for 2024, the sorting area will be completely renovated with new displays to make sorting easier. In a second phase, we'd like to introduce "nudges" to make sorting fun and intuitive: don't hesitate to give us your ideas for "bin games"!
We're also going to develop our donation box to promote the re-use of objects and encourage exchange and sharing. These actions are part of our "zero waste" and circular economy approach.
But above all: our commitment is thanks to you, our guests and partners, who put your trust in us and support our approach through your small, planet-friendly gestures every day. So well done and thank you!
Labels that make a difference
To give concrete expression to our commitment, we are proud to hold internationally and nationally recognised labels. The Green Key and the European Ecolabel are certifications that provide a structured and official framework for assessing and promoting the sustainability of our campsite. They provide official recognition that our campsite meets strict sustainability standards and encourage us to constantly look for ways to minimise our environmental impact. These labels also enable you to make informed choices about sustainable tourism.
The Ecolabel and Green Key are more than just certifications, they are a real commitment to the planet, but also to you, our holidaymakers and our partners. These labels reflect our environmental approach, all the actions we have put in place and our future plans. They encourage us to constantly improve so that we can offer you an exceptional green tourism experience. Visit our "Our distinctions" page to find out more about the distinctions that make us an eco-responsible choice for your holidays.
