As you may already know, La Torche is an eco-friendly, socially responsible campsite which supports the local economy by favouring local businesses. In the current context, we believe it is crucial to run our campsite responsibly and to share our values with all of our partners. Here are just a few examples of our commitments :
we work with local suppliers whenever possible (beer, groceries…),
we have a vegetable garden and a bioclimatic greenhouse which is used for educational purposes for the younger generation (school groups, garden activities for young children in the summer…),
we take care of our animals (sheep, hens, ducks…) who provide us with eggs, maintain the grass and ventilate the soil…
However, it is the 100% green energy that makes a real difference when you to choose La Torche for your next camping holiday :
solar panels and photovoltaic panels on all of the roofs (mobile-homes, shower blocks, bar…),
replacing obselete fridges with energy efficient models (all of our fridges are rated AA++),
the radiators are now all fitted with intelligent heating control, saving energy when you are no longer in the room for example,
we use the most energy saving lightbulbs (led or low energy),
the night lamps in the alleyways are solar powered.
In 2019 we took our environmental commitments a step further by installing a wind turbine.
Green energy from the Breton winds
The installation of our wind turbine in July last year takes our eco-citizenship to another level. Our new arrival, ANTARIS manufactured by BRAUN, stands proudly overlooking the campsite entrance. It stands over 22 metres high and rises well above the beautiful Leyland cypress hedge but blends into the environment saluting you when you arrive.
Clean and efficient energy !
In terms of performance we are delighted to finally benefit from natural overabundant energy in the heart of our Bigouden land ! Thanks to the famous Breton winds, we produce up to 12.5 kW for our own use. This energy supplies the nearby mobile homes (water heaters, radiators, lighting). Specially designed for very windy areas, the system shuts down during storms ; how clever is that !
Thanks to our wind tubine, we not only produce clean energy, we also support the local economy and employment. The wind turbine was made in Germany but was installed by a local company (BBS in Saint-Yvi). A couple of local companies also carried out the soil studies (FONDASOL and KA INGENIERIE based in Finistère) and SALIOU in Plomelin in Finistère carried out the building work and foundations. We would like to thank these companies for their commitment to green energy projects and for contributing to the region’s economic vitality.
So what’s next ?
We plan to install a charging station for electric cars in the spring. Campers with electric cars will soon have their own charging station on the campsite !
But above all, our commitment is all thanks to you, our customers and partners who believe in us and support us through small daily gestures to protect our planet. So well done and thank you !
